On November 24, 2024, I took a bus from Montreal and crossed the border for a day trip to Burlington, a small city in the U.S. state of Vermont.
Burlington is a relatively small city by U.S. standards, but it is the largest city in Vermont (though it is not the state capital—the capital is Montpelier).
I initially planned to take a relaxing walk and enjoy the fresh air in this small city, but the wind was much stronger than expected, making it quite cold.
The photos below were taken while walking along Church Street.

Next, I visited Waterfront Park, located along Lake Champlain.(Lake Champlain is not one of the Great Lakes)
To reach Waterfront Park, I had to cross the railroad crossing shown in the photos above. It had been several months since I last crossed a railroad crossing, the previous time being during my trip to Tokyo, Japan, in July 2024.
After crossing the railroad tracks, you can see the science museum shown in the photo above (though I did not visit it).
The photo above shows the park information sign. The park stretches in a long, narrow shape along the lakeshore.
As I got closer to the park, the biting wind, accompanied by the cold, struck me fiercely. Since my visit was in late November, and the park was near the lakeshore, the wind was exceptionally strong.

I thought about walking along the lakeshore, but the wind was too strong, so I decided against it. Instead, I walked back to the city center, had a cup of coffee, and then headed to Fletcher Free Library.

During my visit to Burlington, I was still in the middle of the semester, so I had several assignments to complete. I worked on my laptop inside the library. However, at times, the librarians and visitors spoke quite loudly. Fortunately, I had brought earplugs, which helped me focus.
The Library at Night
After leaving the library, I walked along Church Street again. As night fell, it became even colder. However, with Christmas just a month away, the streets were adorned with various festive decorations, creating a completely different atmosphere from the daytime. It was a new and charming sight.
That said, there weren’t many pedestrians around at night.

That evening, I took a bus back to Montreal, crossing the border once again. Originally, I had planned to take a bus to visit the Shelburne Museum, but unfortunately, it was closed at the time of my visit, so I couldn't go.
