Montreal : Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal

Notre-Dame Basilica de Montreal

On September 3, 2024, I visited Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal. At the time of my visit, part of the basilica was under renovation, but there was no issue entering. In fact, this was my second visit to the basilica.

This basilica was completed in 1865, making it a relatively modern church. As I will introduce below, various contemporary features can be seen throughout its interior.

Entrance Information

Admission Ticket

Generally, entrance to churches is free, but for this basilica, an admission ticket was required. The ticket booth was located next to the entrance of the basilica.

Interior of the Basilica

The interior of the basilica is dominated by a bluish hue that enveloped the ceiling and central area.

The photo above shows the rear section of the basilica’s central area. Against the backdrop of the blue ceiling, golden statues were prominently displayed.

The photos above show the side sections of the basilica. The basilica consists of three floors, and as mentioned earlier, it was enveloped in a striking blue hue.

Ceiling

Like many other churches, this basilica also has several small chapels along its sides. The three photos below capture these chapels.

Throughout the basilica's side sections, as seen in the photos above and below, there are spaces where visitors can make donations, light candles, and offer prayers for their wishes.

The photo above captures the view from inside the basilica, looking toward the main entrance. The massive organ on the third floor was a spectacular sight.
